Colt 2nd Model Paterson Ring Lever Rifle
« on: March 04, 2013, 06:05:17 AM »

Colt 2nd Model Paterson Ring Lever Rifle.  It is serial numbered 487, has a 32 barrel of .44 caliber.  There were 500 of these made between 1836 and 1840.  This one, being near the end of the line, has the improvements of the round back cylinder and the loading lever applied to the right side of the barrel lug.  Previous to that, the shooter had to remove the barrel, use a loading tool to push the bullets into the chamber, put caps on the nipples and reassemble the rifle to shoot it.  The front ring revolves the cylinder and cocks the internal hammer.  The rear trigger fires the gun.

The barrel is browned, cylinder and the frame blued and casehardened.
