Unfired Metropolitan Arms Company of New York Navy Revolver
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:21:35 PM »

Unfired Metropolitan Arms Company of New York Navy Revolver, serial number 1682.  It is a first model which is an almost exact copy of the Colt Model 1851 Navy and it is unmarked except for the serial number.  The boys at Metropolitan, headed up we think by Orison Blunt and some of the Syms, started the company 3 weeks after the Colt fire and bet (successfully) that Sam Colt would be too busy dealing with rebuilding the factory instead of suing them.  Only about 800 of these first models were made.  They had a 7-1/2 barrel and were caliber .36.  They were made from 1864 to 1866

There is an article on the Metropolitan Arms Company of New York in the latest (June, 2013) issue of Arms Heritage Magazine online.
