2013 Deer Season Outcomes
« on: November 19, 2013, 09:37:47 PM »

Ok folks, hope admin doesn't mind. Thought I would make a thread for folks to post their 2013 hunting results (preferably) with their percussion revolvers!

As for me, I hope to post some results soon. My season officially starts this Saturday.

Good luck to all!

Admin don't mind are you using a percussion revolver for hunting? Can we have the details, what gun, what load, bullet, etc?

I'm curious myself!

Unfortunately I won't be able to use my BP arms this season as I've only recently finished breaking it in and still need to find an accurate hunting load (been using the nasty Pyrodex I got with my pistol), and I'm just not good enough to shoot past maybe 15 yds with my Ruger. Next year it'll be on!!!

I'm using the following:

Pietta 1858 New Army target model w/ steel frame
Hornady .454 round ball
Hodgdon Triple 7 FFFg 27.5gr by weight (according to my powder throw, it's equivalent to 30gr by volume.)
CCI #10 primers

Are you looking to use this as a primary or secondary weapon?

I'm guessing from prior results with 33 grns of T7 (1062 fps) through a ROA that you'd likely be getting about 1000 fps with that load.

Well, the brother carried this for the first of season. His arm is broke so he can't hunt with a rifle. I went ahead and carried my Ruger Vaquero 45 Colt. I'm hunting some more this weekend at another location so I'll probably take the Remmy. I well also be carrying a 243 bolt gun. If I can get a buck in close enough, I'll probably use the pistol.

I live in Ohio.  A C&B revolver is not acceptable for deer hunting so I will post a zero for my outcome.  Ohio allows shotgun, handguns, bow and arrow, and muzzleloaders.

And of course, vehicles.
