Manson Sheffield Bowie

A NICKEL-SILVER MOUNTED COFFIN-HILTED BOWIE KNIFE,
circa 1880, with clip-point 8 1/4in. blade signed 'MANSON, SHEFFIELD' at the ricasso, the blade false-edged for the last 3 1/2in., straight nickel-silver cross-guard with ball finials, nickel-silver coffin-shaped hilt with heavyweight pommel, marine ivory smooth, flat scales held by six pins, inlaid plain nickel-silver escutcheon to left hand side TOGETHER WITH its original nickel-silver mounted leather scabbard, the locket with gadrooned throat and engraved with American scrolls to the front, crudely initialled 'W.I.' to reverse, the chape en-suite with ball finial (some staining to blade, age cracking to scales and minor imperfections throughout)
