Colt BPA Model 1851 Navy Revolver 150th Anniversary tribute
« on: October 08, 2012, 11:27:15 AM »

Colt BPA Model 1851 Navy Revolver Among the finest 1851 Navy revolvers ever produced by Colt, it enhanced the cover of their 2000 Holiday Gift Catalog, fully engraved, with carved, real, elephant ivory grips, the catalog best describes this revolver: ""Designing a 150th Anniversary tribute to so illustrious a weapon was no easy task even for the master craftsmen of the Colt Blackpowder Arms Company. Early on, it was decided that the most appropriate homage would be a design that exemplified the best period style scrollwork and the finest hand engraving. No idiosyncrasies to be tolerated here: the new revolver must equal or exceed deluxe 19th century specimens in degree of coverage, delicacy of scrollwork and quality of hand engraving. To showcase the engraver's art, only a perfect mirror bright polish with sharp radii, flats and corners would do, the rich bluing and pure 24K gold plating must be equally exquisite. When it came to the grips, always a focal point of the best quality Colt revolvers, it was decided that genuine hand carved elephant ivory was only material suitable for a tuor de force such as 150th Anniversary Navy. The result, quite literally, is a masterpiece!"" This revolver comes cased with all accessories in a Colt walnut and velvet lined presentation case. The original price of this package in 2000 was $4,327.50 + shipping and was special order. This revolver was the personal property of a proud, career Naval Officer, Cash C. Carter, as evidenced by his intitials on the left side of the frame, CCC, which was done when these revolvers were issued, the owners initials were engraved on the frame"

I'm willing to guess that one won't be shot anytime soon.
