 8) Looks like .44 caliber is more popular than .36

All I have at the moment is an Old Army (.45) as far as a revolver goes, but I feel this strong urge to get a .44 cal 1858 with the short barrel and a Coly 1862 Police (Uberti) or maybe an 1863 Remington... But I'd still vote .45/.44...

I have three .44s - Two 1958s and one 60.  So that makes it easy - .44

I have five 36's and a sixth on the way, all 1862 pocket models, so for me it's 36

On another forum I saw something that someday I'll have to do myself.  Someone took the cylinder from a Pocket Navy and installed it on his Pocket Police.  To me it looks awesome!  Did Armi San Marco make a Pocket Navy?  Or does anyone know if an Uberti PN cylinder will work on an ASM Pocket Police frame?  If not, someday I'll have to buy an Uberti and the extra cylinder.  Finest looking gun IMHO.

That was you then, you have the collection of '62s right?  These little guns have to be my favorite, comfortable and natural pointers in my hand.

I have 7 of them, not sure that qualifies as a collection

2 Cimarron Police 5.5 in original finish
2 Cimarron Navy's 6.5 in regular blue finish (in a Bill's case with burl walnut grips)
1 Cimarron Police 4.5 in regular finish
2 Navy Arms Law and Order sets with Uberti 5.5 Police models

might be getting a few more in the near future plus I have grips, cases, and other accessories on order

I just ordered some new parts for my ASM from Deer Creek.  If reliability improves, I'd like to cut it down to 4-1/2 inches and then get an Uberti at 4-1/2 inches with a Navy cylinder.

At 10 yards mine shoots about 15 inches high.  Anyone happen to know how an ASMs front sight is secured to the barrel?  I gather it's screwed or welded, there's no dovetail.

I have always prefeerred a .44 caliber firearm. However, I have a lot of fun shooting my .36 caliber revolvers. But for the field, I always take a .44.

I have a pietta cylinder. It fits my ASM perfectly.

In the case of the pocket models, Pietta doesn't make them.  Uberti is the only one now.

...Greetings

What I don't understand is 31 is usually described as anemic and 36 as a man stopper yet there is ony a .05 (1/20th) of an inch difference ... Joel...

Joel,  The .05 is a huge difference when dealing with small calibers.  A 31 caliber ball may weigh 50 grains and the .380 (what I use in 36s) will weigh about 80grains.  An increase of 60%.  But the real appeal of the 31s in there original venue was nobody wanted to get shot, with anything!  The art of medicine at the time, was not very good.  Infection and incompetence killed a lot of shooting victims.

I have a photo of the round balls from 31 to 45.  If I can find it, I will post it to this thread.

The Pocket revolvers were the best selling product Colts had.  Of course, pockets were bigger back then.

I voted for the 44 caliber.  As much as I like my 36s, I tend to grab and 1860 as often as not when heading to the field.
